There's a lot that goes into sound design beyond 'take a microphone and record a sound' - that's really only 1 part of the whole thing. Gun sound with a snappy quick bassy punch (see BF4 sound design) have that high energy and can cut through the audio mix to add real energy to your shooting.

I think believable sound design is what should be aimed for, sound design that gives you good feedback in the actions performed, but also has the proper energy to fit the action performed. I think a lot of people don't realize when it comes to sound design, it usually isn't about a 'realistic' sound because 'realistic' sounds don't translate well when recorded. While they don't hold a candle to that beautiful punch that Dice has perfected in their BF games, FO4 does a pretty decent job. In my opinion, the gun sounds in FO4 aren't bad.

Then again, I work a lot with sound so I pick up on these things more than others do. In the past, the sound mods that quote unquote, 'overhauled' weapon sounds in.say Fallout or Skyrim usually felt like some modder took some stock samples and over processed them to try to make them sound 'better'. You need a good sound stage with a field recorder. Good sound design is.kind of expensive well it's expensive if you don't have the right equipment. I always worry about modders trying their hand at sound design. (As a Canadian I have no idea what guns should sound like, but to me this mod sounds better than let us know what you have found so far (I think this mod has a long way to go, but it is an improvement over stock sounds) (may not sound like a big deal, but you will notice the difference)

Here are some mods that I have used so far: Anyone else notice the horrible implementation of the moon that is a bright white circle even at 1/4 phase? ick! I am still waiting on a mod to overhaul the (TERRIBLE) inventory system, but there are already some visual and sound mods to improve the game. Even though it is early on, I figured it would be worth starting a thread on Fallout 4 mods.
